In order to process payments with Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards, we now need an additional element: the VIN or Verification Number (also known as the CVV2, CVC2, or CID security code). This 3 or 4 digit code is found on the back of your Visa or MasterCard or on the front of your American Express credit card.
What is the Verification Number?
The Verification Number is a new authentication scheme established by credit card companies to further efforts towards reducing fraud for internet transactions. The Verification Number is a three or four-digit security code that is printed on credit cards. This program helps validate that a genuine card is being used during a transaction. Even if a criminal steals a valid account number, they cannot compute the CVV2 numbers since they do not know the mathematical algorithm logic.Credit card thieves hate it. But you'll love it knowing it will help to keep your credit card safe and reduce fraud.
Where can I find the Verification Number on my card?
